GPs Are On your Side – Collective Action

If you are struggling to see your GP and get the continuity of care you need, you are not alone. General Practice is broken.

GP Partners in England have voted for collective action. Collective action is not a strike, but a chance for all GP practices to act together and send a clear message that General Practice in its current form is not working.

The BMA suggests GP practices consider 10 recommended safe, sustainable options.

The actions are designed to turn up the pressure on the Government to do the right thing for General Practice so we can better support our patients who are at the heart of what we do.

The British Medical Association (BMA) campaign is called ‘GPs are on your side’. It provides context to GP partners vote for collective action.

We ask that you please take the time to read the below information.

We are aware of the anxiety that this may cause. We plan to take only the actions that will not impact your care. We feel it is critical for the future of General Practice if we are going to be able to provide you with the best possible care we know you need. We want the same things as you.

We will keep you up to date with regards to the actions we will be taking.

GPs Are on Your Side

Your GP is an expert in general medical practice – trained over 10 years to deal with complex problems, spot serious symptoms, and decide when you need specialist help at the hospital.

We value our patients. We know that most patients value us too, especially when they need us regularly. You know we can deal with most of your health problems, keep you out of hospital, and have your best interests at heart. The problem is with the mismanagement of the NHS.

Did you know The Government gives this practice just £107.57 a year for each patient, whatever their health needs. That’s less than the cost of a TV license.

It’s just 30p a day for every patient registered with us – less than the cost of an apple.

In the last 5 years GP Practices have lost funding worth over £660 million. We can’t use the poor funding we receive to recruit more GPs or practice nurses either.

We believe general practice deserves a bigger slice of NHS funding so we can train and hire more GPs, deliver the services you require and make it easier for you and your loved ones to get appointments to see your GP and practice team.

GPs want the same things that you do. We believe nobody should struggle to see their family doctor.

General Practice should be as it once was – a familiar family doctor, offering continuity of care in a surgery full of friendly familiar faces within a safe building where you knew you would get the care you needed.

We need a new contract that is fit for purpose, one that provides the investment and workforce needed to reset general practice to improve patient care.
