Mental Health (Under 18)

It can be difficult as a young person dealing with mental health issues. It can feel very lonely. Parents or other family and friends may not know where to turn but there is plenty of help around.

This page has resources that are available and can be accessed without needing to see your GP. Most Mental Health issues can be dealt with by accessing these services. This includes:

  • Anxiety
  • Low Mood
  • Bullying
  • Behavioural issues
  • Self Harm (Mild to Moderate)
  • Poor Self Esteem
  • Bereavement

However if you are in a crisis you need to access help urgently by any of the following ways:

  • Calling the practice – 01773 602707
  • 999 (if there is imminent threat to life)
  • Attending the nearest A&E

KEY SERVICES

MENTAL HEALTH

 

Action for Children are a national children’s charity committed to helping children and young people in the UK. They work with Derbyshire Federation for Mental Health to provide a service called ‘Build Sound Minds Derby and Derbyshire’.  They also provide a service called ‘Space 4 U supporting children who are seriously affected by someone else’s substance misuse.

BUILD SOUND MINDS

This service supports children and young people from 0 – 17 years with:

  • Anxiety, depression, stress and or other mood difficulties
  • Self-harm – where this is mild to moderate
  • Behaviour problems where the behaviour falls outside what might be considered to be within the range of normal behaviour
  • Emotional difficulties (Mild to moderate)
  • Family difficulties
  • Adjustment reactions (i.e. managing transition, change)
  • Simple phobias
  • Bullying where this is having a significant impact on emotional wellbeing (direct/indirect/cyber)
  • Difficulty managing angry feelings
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Parental need where support in managing and understanding behaviour could be beneficial

They offer psychologically informed interventions with children/young people and families, which is focused and time limited as per the NICE guidelines

This can be face to face or by digital means. It can also include support for Parents and group based interventions

Space 4 U

Space 4 U welcomes referrals from anyone, for children aged 5 to 18 from all parts of Derbyshire who are affected by someone else’s substance misuse.

It is free, anonymous and is accessible via mobile, tablet and desktop devices

Available 365 days a year, from 12 noon –10pm, Monday to Friday and 6pm – 10pm at weekends
