Support for Veterans

1accreditationlogo
We are a registered ‘Armed Forces Veteran friendly accredited GP practice’. This means that, as part of the health commitments of the Armed Forces Covenant, we have a dedicated clinician who has a specialist knowledge of military related health conditions and veteran specific health services. This is important in helping ex-forces to get the best care and treatment.

If you are ex-forces, please let the practice know so we can add this to your medical record. By identifying yourself as a veteran, you may be able to access additional support, specialist services, and entitlements available to the Armed Forces community, helping to improve your health outcomes and ensure you receive the most appropriate care and support.

If you would like to provide feedback on how we are performing as a veteran friendly GP practice, please let a member of our staff know or you can send your comments to the Royal College of General Practitioners at Veterans@rcgp.org.uk

The Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service

Op COURAGE is an NHS service in England that’s been developed with people who’ve served in the Armed Forces and experienced mental ill-health. Every member of staff within the service is either from the Armed Forces or has experience of working with the military community. In partnership with Armed Forces charities and NHS services, the staff at Op COURAGE provide specialist care, support and treatment for those due to leave the military, reservists and those who’ve served.
Op COURAGE provides a range of specialist support and treatment, depending on the needs of the individual – there’s no ‘one size fits all’. This might include helping you to recognise and treat early signs of mental ill health, as well as providing care and support for more advanced mental health conditions and psychological trauma.

In addition, the service provides support and treatment for a range of addictions, such as alcohol and drug misuse and gambling, and can refer you to other NHS services if needed.

Op COURAGE also works with charities and local organisations to provide support for your wider health and wellbeing needs, which may include help with housing, relationships, finances and employment.

You can contact Op COURAGE directly to make an appointment or ask someone else, such as a family member, friend, charity or health professional to make it for you.You can also ask your GP to refer you, but you don’t have to go through your GP to get an appointment.

An emotional support line is available by calling 0300 323 0139 – available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Veterans Physical Health Service

Op RESTORE, The Veterans Physical Health and Wellbeing Service is an NHS service that supports individuals who have served in, or are leaving, the UK armed forces and have continuing, physical health injuries and related medical problems attributed to their time in the armed forces.

It does not matter when the physical health injury or related medical problems occurred or how long ago you left the armed forces, Op RESTORE can help you if:

  • you have served at least one day in the UK armed forces
  • you are soon to leave or are in the process of leaving the UK armed forces
  • you have sustained a physical health injury that was attributable to your time in service regardless of when that happened
  • you have ongoing medical problems related to the physical injury sustained in service
  • we have received a clinical referral from your GP practice
If you feel this service can help you, contact the practice and request that a GP completes the Op RETSORE referral form. You can do this by phoning the practice or via our online consultation tool. Once Op Restore have received the referral it will then be reviewed by the team of doctors, nurses and therapists and a plan of care will be developed. This takes around 8 weeks. Visit the Op RESTORE website for further information.
