Mental Health (Under 18)

It can be difficult as a young person dealing with mental health issues. It can feel very lonely. Parents or other family and friends may not know where to turn but there is plenty of help around.

This page has resources that are available and can be accessed without needing to see your GP. Most Mental Health issues can be dealt with by accessing these services. This includes:

  • Anxiety
  • Low Mood
  • Bullying
  • Behavioural issues
  • Self Harm (Mild to Moderate)
  • Poor Self Esteem
  • Bereavement

However if you are in a crisis you need to access help urgently by any of the following ways:

  • Calling the practice – 01773 602707
  • 999 (if there is imminent threat to life)
  • Attending the nearest A&E

Compass – Changing Lives

Derby and Derbyshire Mental Health Support Teams and Early Intervention Targeted Support Services 

Compass Changing Lives provides prevention and early intervention emotional wellbeing and mental health support to Children, Young People aged 5 – 18 and Families (CYPFs) across Derby & Derbyshire. 

Changing Lives is made up of two services, a Mental Health Support Team which supports schools and CYPF and the Early Intervention Targeted Support Service which provides support across the county and city.

The services are made up of Emotional Wellbeing Practitioners, Education Mental Health Practitioners, Mental Health Practitioners and Senior / Supervising Practitioners from a range of health and education backgrounds.

  • Low mood
  • Sadness
  • Low motivation
  • Mild to moderate anxiety 
  • Irrational fears and concerns
  • Common challenging behaviours: angry outbursts, pushing boundaries, frustration and distress
  • Family and peer relationship difficulties
  • Difficulty adjusting to change and transition
  • Difficulty managing emotions

It is free, anonymous and is accessible via mobile, tablet and desktop devices

Available 365 days a year, from 12 noon –10pm, Monday to Friday and 6pm – 10pm at weekends.
